W800 trickle charger

Some advice, please, gents.
I'm a fair-weather rider nowadays so through the worst of winter I tend to keep the bike on a trickle charger. The owner's manual recommends a couple of chargers, including an Optimate 4, but says if these aren't available, use a suitable substitute.

I did try emailing Kawasaki but got a less than helpful answer.

I have a charger, an Accugard-Bike 900 with an output rate of 0.9A.
What worries me is that the W800 uses a CanBus system (whatever that is) and I have no idea if that means my charger isn't suitable.
Can anyone advise me, please?

The CANBUS system is just a method of communicating with the various electronic functions on your bike. It should not affect what type of charger you are using. What you don't want to use is a unit that is a trickle charger only, as over time it will overcharge your battery. The one you have has a maintaining function, and as such is safe to leave connected to your bike.

Thank you for that.
I didn't want to buy an Optimate if it wasn't essential, and the charger I have still works perfectly.
