Looking at various manuals, the valve adjustment does not seem such a big job? As this is the first time I've tackled such a job as this, is there anything I should be aware of before starting work on them? Such as having a new gasket ready etc? Regards Busby

Valve adjustment is very "easy".

Tricky part is making sure your adjustment stays while tightening the nut on the adjuster screw. I recommend using the feeler gauge again and again after adjustment. If your gasket does not leak oil, you can reuse the rubber gasket mating the head cover and head surfaces. a tiny bit of gasket maker can be used if you see/feel necessary, especially around the cutouts for the valve rocker shafts.

Obviously, just make sure engine is completely cool before adjusting and tighten to the correct Newton meter torque is highly recommended as you don't want them loosening while engine is running.
