Hi all, new to this biker lark so class me as a mechanically minded 'novice'. lol Looking for help with my '89 ZXR750. It has just started to be very temperamental in the lower end of the revs - lumpy for want of a better word! I have been using normal unleaded fuel in it and was wondering if i should be using more expensive stuff in the 'next pump along' with the higher price tag? I have put new plugs in to see if that cured it but it doesnt seem to have made anything better or worse... past 3000rpm all seems well, but when pulled up or when tootling along at 30mph it runs like a bag of hammers! Any suggestions greatly recieved - Jay...

Thanks dogdragon, if only it was that easy eh? ![]() Well tried the air filter thing without success. ![]() Next thing i think i'm gonna have a go at is a thing i found called 'REDEX'. Now i'm guessing that a lot of you prob know about this, just looking for a little confirmation really, someone to say "Nah, it wont break ya bike or make it any worse!" lol The bottle says it can be added to the fuel or put direct into the carb... Anyone used it before, that could point me in the right direction...??? ![]()

Well i thought i would be by now reporting that all is well/not well with my fuel system. BUT, while deliberating my fuel problem, i thought i would take the time to look at my brakes, which were feeling on - movement in the lever - on more movement in the lever... (Best way i can describe it!) Anyway, i figured it would be dirty pistons that were sticking then releasing,so with trusty haynes manual i took off the caliper and stripped em down. This all went well with the first half of the caliper releasing its pistons without drama... The other half however refused, and is still refusing to let go! I decided to reassemble the caliper, bleed the brakes, and when piston movement began, clamp the two pistons down that i had already cleaned, and wait for movement in the stubborn two... Oh no, the brakes will now not bleed! There is no sign of life coming from the brake master cylinder at all...So much for my fuel troubles, not only does my baby not go well, she doesnt stop now either! Any tips for getting these pistons out? Or should i admit defeat and take it for a long walk off something short and high...??? lol

Looks like you got some serious problems there, don't lose heart. I don't get everything right first time either. Some times I have to leave the problem for a day or two before I start all over again. If you lived a bit loser I'd find the problem and find a way to fix it. It ain't so easy when you can't see and feel the problem. I don't know if any of the little tricks I put on my site (maintainance section) will help you either. All I can suggest is start the rebuild all over again. Don't let your self get wound up if it don't work. If you get any more problems, let me know and I'll see what I can do. I know the brake system on your bike is different to my ZX10a, so I'll have to check my friends zxr400 which I'm hoping are the same. Don't ever give up. Si www.dogdragons.com |

HI! ANOTHER NEW MEMBER. I also own a zxr750 j1 1992 and it runs real lumpy at low revs but goes like s**t off a shovel when you open her up.Does anyone know what the topend speed should be for one of these? (according to the book ) |

Ok then, the story thus far... FINALLY managed to get my brakes bled! Went up to Halfords and bought a kit that fits onto your reservoir via a bottle and spare tyre (off a car - not bike) It forces the fluid into the lines under pressure from the tyre! All sounded good at first, until none of the caps fitted my reservoir, so i had to drill a hole in the one on my bike! Not Good! But anyway, its done now . As for the erratic running below 3000rpm, that was slightly improved when i found a little clear bottle on the side that had some water in it! Emptied that out and it seems to be a little better now... I must find out what that bottle thing is...??? Anyway, i'm up and running again for now, thanks for the comments and suggestions. Must dash now though cos i'm off to Scarbourgh for the w/end on Friday for the racing! Keep it rubber side down all. Later!
