The prime setting means that the petrol tap works as a gravety fed fuel system. avoiding the diaphragm, letting fuel run freeley through the pipes from the tank to the carb. If you want to learn more about the diaphragm tap on Kawasakis, I have put a page up on my web site showing a stripped petrol tap from my RX1000 (ZX10a)

THE PRIME POSITION IS AS DOGDRAGON SAYS,BYPASSES THE DIAPHRAGM TO FILL THE CARBS.
YOU SHOULD ONLY NEED TO USE IT IF THE BIKES BEEN STOOD A WHILE OR THE CARBS HAVE BEEN STRIPPED & CLEANED.ON NO ACCOUNT LEAVE THE TAP IN THIS POSITION,AS PETROL WILL EVENTUALLY RUN INTO THE CYLINDERS AND WILL WASH ANY LUBRICANT OFF THE BORES.
