Hi everybody. I'm Rick and i've just got myself a kawasaki zxr 750 j2 model in green white and blue complete with go faster hoover pipes. It has an interesting fault. After revving the bike past 6000rpm, the engine cuts out when you roll off the throttle. It is intermittent but becomes more likely the higher you rev it. It only happens on the over run, when you roll off, never when you the power is on. You know how these engines purr when you're rolling off and hear a couple of fizzles and pops coming from the exhaust? Mine doesn't seem to have the hang of this, it sounds a bit off on the over run. The exhaust looks like it could do with replacing so maybe the gasses aren't escaping properly. As a matter of course I'm changing the plugs, oil and filters and giving the carbs a good clean. Once I can afford it, I'm getting a full stainless steel system. Someone has also suggested it could be the ignition switch getting shaken loose at high vibrations. But it doesn't happen on acceleration, only on deceleration. I'll still check it regardless, if nothing else but to eliminate the possibility. Can anyone else think of any problem areas to check? |

Hi Greenboglin, I agree with Kawastu about cleaning the carbs - preferably get them sonically cleaned if the bike's not been run for a while before you bought it - check your pilot jets & float needles in particular. Good Luck, Kawasakifreak. |

Also, check the fuel pump. If its old it may run intermitantly and the float bowls may not be filling back up once you drain them.

Hi Rick, i had the same proplem with my P2, has yours been standing for anytime? if it has, you might want to try this, mine had been standing for about a yr before I bought it, the first time I rode it it cut out 4 times in the 2 mile ride home, I drained the fuel tank, flushed the pipes and blew out the carb, put it all back together again, meddled with the idle adjuster, got the tick over right and tried it, no more cutting out and one happy rider with 300 miles on the clock since. Good Luck smudgezx7r
