Can anybody advise ? I have just purchesed a G plate zxr750 ninja theengine is making a rattling noise and appears to be breathing through cylinder 1 valves ?? Have checked valve clearences and all appear to be tight ? In my haste a managed to purchase a j1 engine with very low milage only last night whilst trying to get it in the frame it will not fit because it is too tight in the frame can any body advise as to the original engines fault or advise as to any alterations which will allow the new engines fitment cheers !! |

It's been a while but isn't he H1 a tappet adjuster on the valves and the J1 shims and buckets? If all the valves were tight it seems to have missed a valve adjustment or two as most commonly you find 3~7 out. So previous owner was most likely an Earnest thrasher and enjoying the extra power the tight clearances were giving or a bod and had no clue what was going on ! Your #1 suspect has to be camchain and tensioner - even if low mileage the tensioner spring has been working for upteen years and more than likely tired. Mori! |

Thanks Mori having further investigation of the engine and a quick strip the culprit is the big end shells on #4 cylinder they are knackerd which came as a suprisse to me as it definatly sounded like a top end rattle rather than a bottom end knock but at least i no where the problem lies! as set of new bearings and a crank grind should sort that problem out thanks once again for taking the time to reply Regards Darren
