Any advice, i have a small leak on the front of my radiator about 3/4s of the way up. Its about the size of a pinprick, but under pressure shoots out at fast rate. luckily i noticed it early before i lost too much coolent. There is no damage or corrosion that i can see and the bike is still under warranty. On contacting the dealership i purchased it from they wer'nt very helpfull, basiclly they claimed it had to be a direct impact from a stone and is not covered for the warranty even though i cant see no sign of this, plus the fact i had a Beowulf radiator grill fitted to stop this kind of damage. So am i just being fobbed off, is there any point of these so called warrantys and is there anything else i can do to get round this problem without having to buy a new rad. Cheers Frampy.

hi , have a close look at the hole and see if the edges are pushed in , if they are then its a stone strike or if its pushed out then its a fault with the rad , try taking it to another dealer with the cover off n see what they say may be worth tryin too |

Tough one to call Frampy, I suppose it depends on how much your dealer wants repeat business and good will. On the face of it they do have a point - you wouldn't expect them to replace rear tyre if you picked up a puncture with 200 miles (or 20 miles) of picking the bike up - unless you could prove it was a nail on their workshop floor. The rad certainly doesn't need replacing, just repairing. You can almost certainly get that done locally. I had a rad re-cored by a firm called 'Sercks Marston' a few years ago and it cost me £130, but that was for a completely new core and rebuild. Have a look in the yellow pages or online for a local firm specialising in rads. A simple repair like the one you describe won't cost anything like that. As the bike is under warranty I would go to the shop owner - not the service manager and ask if they are willing to assist you by removing the rad and allowing you to have it repaired (unless the big K will actually authorise a local repair, which you could always ask for - don't ask, don't get :) ). Doing the work yourself could invalidate your warranty, so it's always best to ask the dealer first. My option would be to 'close' the hole by nipping the rad with a small pair of needle nose pliers - but that would be a get you home last resort job! Let us know how you get on - and Name & Shame that Dealer!!!!
