Kawasaki ZR750 Zephyr; Smokey Start

Ok I've just done a straight swap for a Kawasaki ZR750 Zephyr 1994 (swap my 07 Kawasaki ER5) I've had it about a week and its been a fantastic little bike and is in great nick for it's age.
Just recently though as I start it it seems to be billowing a whitish/Grey smoke :zrx which lingers for a bit then goes. It stops when the engine is warm though.
Any one got any idea what it is??
I've been told it could be either sticky carb, fucked piston rings, or some one has put fully synthetic oil in.

I'm hoping its the oil as it is due for a service, and if its the rings I'll be :lkl
Dont wanna get rid of her as it took me ages to find one is such good nick :@

You've not mentioned the mileage on the Zephyr, but it sounds like you're burning oil due to worn rings. The cylinders may need to be honed or maybe even bored to the next size with new pistons and rings.

Yeah I thought that also, but then if the piston rings had gone it would smoke constantly??
(Trying to keep costs down lol)

doesnt sound like rings to me as they would mean it smokes all the time ,sounds like may be just normal cold start condensation to me , my z.750. smokes like a steam train when it starts but it is just normal stuff ' most other likely thing is valve stem oil seals but if its not using much oil dont worry about it till it does start using it , the air cooled engines are usually good for quite high milage

I would not worry, just keep an eye on the oil level & if it is not moving then it is condensation. Also do you do short trips if so that can accumulate condensation & the short trips dont get rid of it. Best to give it a blast for say 20/30 miles to clear it all out. My Zr750 also smokes at start but once warm its fine. :D

i have a zephyr 750c1 it also smokes on start up which i have put down to condensation as the bike has never used any oil in the the 5 years i have had mine.bike has done 38000 miles and has a nexus exhaust fitted. ps i do regular oil changes.
