What do you all think about Shinko 009 tire......I have used SuperMaxxis on my bike for several years now, they stop making them so now I need to switch however I don't want to pay too much for tire that only last 3k miles like Dunlap that came with my bike.....I have been reading about this Shinko tire and people are happy with it for the price, holds up well. This is one of the guy from a Forum wrote about Shinko 009 tire: Before you say it, I know what you are thinking.......SHINKO TIRES? Hear me out! I am a former roadracer and have 150K or so street miles under my belt, so trust me when I say I know a thing or two about motorcycle tires! I installed a set of Shinko Raven (009) tires a little while ago. The reason I did is because I work in the industy and one of our distributors is the main Shinko tire distributor for the US, so I got them REALLY cheap and they wanted a review from someone that actually know what he is talking about! These are basically their "high mileage" tire. I am about 1000 miles into the set and have to say I am REALLY surprised! The tires have a pretty round profile to them, so turn in is slower than I am used to, but that is simply personal preference. Grip is so much better than I thought, I almost can't believe it! Once broken in, I could get all of the leaning angle I could on the Z6's and maybe then some, grip is quite good! I came off a set of Metzeler Z6's (great tires), but for the money, these are winners in my book. I also had the pleasure of riding about 200 miles in the rain and wet traction is great as well with no hydroplaning. Straight line stability is everything you would expect from the big guys and absolutely no headshake like I experienced with the stock Bridgestones, tread pattern is pretty cool looking (some care about that?) and it seems at this point that the mileage should be good as well. Side walls are really sturdy, no squirming, but enough flex to offer good feedback from the front and back end. For those looking for a much cheaper alternative to the big names, I would have to recommend you give these a shot! Oh and by the way, the materials, molds and technology built into these tires are from Yokohama! front MSRP is $76.95 and rear MSRP is $116.95. No, I do not sell them, but I know a lot of local dealers have been picking them up and I believe you can get them online as well! Just an update! Last Friday I rode in some of the hardest rain ever! 125 miles and about half of it was in near terrential down pours (I thought I was in the UK )! Chalk up another plus for these tires, still no hydroplaning, good wet grip and stable! WOW that was a wet ride. Another guy from another Forum wrote this: I have those tires and cant really complain about them. I got them last year and put about 2 thousand miles on them and they are still close to new. they ride great in the rain and hold good traction. I will have to say that if you are really pushing it in the twisties, the back tire breaks out a bit. Still nothing you cant handle though. I wouldnt recomend using it for a track day tire. For the price I give them an A for a street tire. |

http://www.shinkotireusa.com/product/product.php?id=8 http://www.debben.co.uk/acatalog/Shinko.html http://ssl.delti.com/cgi-bin/rshop.pl http://www.pricesavvy.co.uk/a/productlist/...productlist.htm Here is what this one web site had to say about Shinko tire...check it out Back in June I wrote about having to replace the rear tire on my bike. In that article I mentioned that I ordered a Shinko brand tire and that I would provide you with a short review of that brand's quality and performance. Shinko? I never heard of this brand of tire! Truth be told, neither had I heard of this brand until I was stuck researching tires to find an affordable performance tire for cruiser type motorcycles. Shinko tires have actually been around for a while (since 1946). Hailing from Japan, they manufacture their tires in South Korea. Their USA presence is headquartered in Boise, Idaho. To quote their About Us page: "...With a strong foothold on the power sports market, and with warehouses located in Boise, Idaho; Fresno, California; and Memphis, Tennessee, Shinko Tires USA-in conjunction with WPS-is proud to bring you the Shinko line of Sportbike, Cruiser, Scooter, Off road, and Dual sport tires." So here's my humble and simple review of the tire I purchased. Perhaps it will help you in your search for a dependable, above-average performance tire for your ride. The tire I purchased was the Shinko 230 Tour Master Rear tire. Purchased from Motorcycle Super Store * Cost: $74.99 + $6.99 Shipping = Total: $81.98 * Tread - considerably above par; good tread depth and design. * Performance - spead-rated for up to 149mph. This means it will handle the hot Texas roads in the summer. This tire is designed specifically for long distance high spead riding. Conclusion: The tire is exceptional for the type of daily riding I do. Grippy, and it handles wet road conditions well; I felt confident on turns and other maneuvers, throughout. The tire tread does not contibute any noticeable behavior when used in combination with other brand tires - I have a Bridgestone Spitfire 11 tire on the front. With both tires the ride has been stable, predictable and solid. For anyone in the market looking for replacement tires, I would suggest considering Shinko as the next set to buy, especially when you can buy a set, front and rear for about the price of one tire from other brands. And even if you don't need tires now - consider buying a set and storing them for your next long cruise. |
