low rev lumpiness on 2002 zx9r

Hi, I bought a 2002 zx9-r E2 in march this year and have ridden it all summer and had a fantastic time, but shortly after the 30 day guarantee ran out, it started to get a bit lumpy at low revs, specifically around 2500-3500rpm. I thought to begin with that maybe I hadn't noticed it in the first month and maybe it had been rejetted as it was sporting the original imacculate end can, but after talking to people it sounds like it may more likely be the main jets getting furred/clogged up. I regularly get into 3 figures (allegedly officer) so its not something that needs to be dislodged. Shortly after the problem occurred I replaced all service parts; plugs, oil, air& fuel filters but this made little difference. It is also getting a bit tricky at lower revs ie when filtering, I have to ride the clutch. All live-withable but I'd rather it was smooth throughout the revs.

So I'm looking for reassurance that this is definitely the correct diagnosis so I can pull the carbs apart. My question then is, does anyone know of the best place to go for good quality carb rebuild kits? Also, is it worth going for a stage one kit, or will this not contain the jets etc that I really need?

Lastly, I'd like to get a tasty end can (that fits with the standard setup) but would really like a high level one. Does anyone know where to get the high level link pipe for this mod?

Cheers in advance guys,

hello, firstly i would get the carbs balanced, then check your pilot jets screws, standard exhaust set them to 2 turns out, see how it goes after that,

Similar problem on my C1, there was a flat spot around 3000 revs and, at times, made riding the bike (especially into corners) a hit and miss affair.

I've goy a Factory jet kit fitted on mine nad a +4 degree ignition advancer. No great increase in power but a crisper, smoother throttle response.

I would also recommend some dyno time to get the best out of the additions.

:zrx My brother bought a 2002 ZX9R 18 months ago he had exactly the same problem. he had the carbs striped and ultrasonic cleaned changed the plugs and fuel in case it had lost its viscosity all to no evale. he asked me to take it out and see what I thought it might be. I took it to work one day and it coughed and spluttered on me when in traffic so much I lost patience with it, took it onto the motorway and thrashed it on the limiter for a few miles and it has been perfect ever sinse. :599
