At 13666 miles the exhaust on my 3 year old ER6f has split near it's join with the silencer. Has anyone else come across this problem?

Got a very polite email from Kawasaki UK which told me to 'go away and stop bothering them', they were not interested as it was well out of warranty.
The new pipe was fitted with a stainless steel clamp as the existing one just crumbled when the garage tried to undo it. Hint for all future ER6f owners, make sure there is a S Steel clamp fitted from new and you shouldn't have a problem.

so endeth this saga.

My exhaust broke a couple of weeks ago in front of the silencer, where the down pipe connects. This is on my 2009 ER6F. 3200 miles on the clock. Understandably the bike is going back in under warranty to have new down pipes. Unfortunately the dealer cant fit me in for over 3 weeks so instead of riding around sounding like a pikey. I stripped it out today and have exhaust puttied in the broken pipe and reclamped it. The bike is 7 months old and the bolts were rotten and the clamp not much better.

I know the bike is cheap new well under 5K but some of the stuff on it is cack. The front end is way too hard, the rear too soft and the mirrors are rubbish. Also i have been through two seat locks as this keeps refusing to open and then the dealer has to dismantle the side to get the seat off.

A description of what an "S" steel clamp looks like if you can manage it would be helpful not just for this dimwit but for others too.

good evening

this is a on going fault. if kawasaki keep fitting this down pipe knowing it does not last than it's '' not fit for purpce'' and must be replaced free of charge.

A few Versy owners have had the same problem. The exhaust is made from low grade stainless steel but the problem is the poor quality welds apparently.

My 08(A8F) ER6f has done just short of 7,800 miles and this past week my downpipes sheered off for the second time. I am not a happy bunny as this time it's well out of warranty!

Just wondering if anyone has fitted the Delkevic S Steel downpipes I've seen on ebay as they claim to have addressed this well known issue?

mate sorry to hear about this sounds like a real pain in the ass, sounds like a vibration issue, the Yamaha fjr1300's have the same thing, Yamaha said it was because they are left to warm up on their side stands they go after about 13000 miles.

as for the Delkavic's i fitted them to my ZX9R (B3) they are top quality, the only thing i would day it that the standard pipe had a link pipe the Delkavic's didn't making the mid range a little fluffy nothing to worry about with the power that thing had.

one place you might have a look at is MTC exhausts (max torque company) i fitted one of their exhausts and they are the mutts. spoke to them direct told them what i wanted and it arrived no prob's very cheap for the quality of the thing.

good luck

I know this is an old thread but for anyone looking up why their exhaust is splitting, it's a stainless steel exhaust on a parallel twin known for its vibe with a fixed silencer. Hence, the down pipe is moving with the vibe while the silencer is rigid causing the weld (apparently poor quality) to snap. The GPZ had the same problem apparently and yet, Kawasaki went and made the same mistake again.

As for solutions I'm still working on it but exhaust tape and tin can is a temp fix I have done but I want a perm fix. Some suggest unbolting the silencer and sliding it up, this can't be done as it's a fixed position and the two pipes butt up rather than slip inside.

I'm thinking about a slip on which I hope will allow for the flex but if you have any suggestions, a known fix or can recommend a reasonably priced slip on please let me know.

Hi, I am new to this forum but have experienced the same problem on my 2007 ER6 N, which I bought new in 2008. The down pipes have spilt where it joins at the clamp. I am looking at fitting the Delkevic Stainless Steel Down Pipes and wondered if this would fit into the existing muffler without any problems. Has anyone done something similar?
