Hi I have a 2007 Z750 ABS. I keep it outside under a motorcycle cover on a slightly sloped drive. A few days ago I went out to discover my bike blown over or by the wind or maybe pushed over, who knows. Luckily I have crash bungs and the only damage appeared to be a bent Brake Lever. Being as my brake pads needed changing i figured id bleed them and replace the lever and pads all at once. Upon inspection i noticed my brake lines were loose at the point of connection to the caliper on the accident side of the bike. I tightened it back up, replaced the pads ( Pistons all moving nice and freely ) and bled the system. Took the bike for a lap of the block to make sure all was well but within 1/4 mile there was a lot of friction on the front discs causing me to stall and the wheel to be locked in place. I had to get the calipers of the forks just to wiggle them free. Once off I have to release the pressure in the system to get the pistons to retract back in as normal. Any ideas whats causing this lock?? I have removed and replaced the pads over and over rebled the system and done everything I can possibly think of yet everytime i ride it up the street it locks. Could this be caused by a damaged master cylinder? The brake lever is locked solid when this happens and cannot be moved inwards. Any help would be much appreciated as I cant take it anywhere to repair it as I cant move the bike as either the wheels locked or i have no brakes. Pulling my hair out now as I cant see how I even get the inners out of the master cylinder to inspect the seals. |

Sounds like something's physically preventing the pistons from retracting. Not heard these symptoms before. Check the feed from the master cylinder - the banjo pipe isn't bent ? |

got to be something to do with the master cylinder or brake lever pivot stopping the piston going back in and therefore keeping the brake on , one thought , has someone been messing about with your bike ? never known a brake pipe to come loose before |

ye crossed our minds here too. dont think ive upset anyone enough to wanna bump me off tho. Ive spoken to a few garages about this and the diagnosis ranges from "strip your calipers, replace master cylinder, abs faulty or brake pads too soft" so all in all im stumped. Drained the system now anyway and was gonna pop some fresh fluid in when i work out whats what. I was advised to to check the return hole in the plunger in my master cylinder. Apparently its a small needle size hole in the shaft. Might be worth checking that the hole is clear and allowing fluid to return. |

Here's a wild stab in the dark. If the ABS sensor got damaged when the bike fell over (?) the ABS system my be at odds with the rest of the system. I realise that the ABS system realeses upon wheel stopping and the re-applies upon movement ......... but! Also, I recently had a brake binding problem and it turned out to the the pads getting jammed in the caplier (rust / "oops" etc) Just a couple of thoughts! |
