Hi, I'm Roger, 43 and live near Oxford, I have an old and slightly battered gpx600 which is very soon going to the big breakers in the sky. Hears the story- I sold my last bike to finance a new kitchen, after a year without one my lovely partner bought me the gpx for xmas (without me knowing) and sadly without getting someone to check it over, it was only £350 but had running and starting problems which got worse and worse until it would only run for a few mins before cutting out, after completely checking out the fuel system, clean tank, check filters, tap and breathers, clean carbs, clean air filter and new plugs, I thought i'd cracked it but no, it still cut out! after more talking to everyone i know who knows anything about bikes it turned out to be the i c igniter, tracked down another one (£55) and put it in, the bike fired up 1st time, hurrah, and kept running, hurrah, sadly it only fired on 3 cylinders and wouldnt go above above 50 with a bit of popping and banging, checked the plugs and at tickover they were all sparking, took it out again and the fairing caught fire while i was riding it, hilarious! my mate reckons the unburnt petrol caught fire in the exhaust and made it so hot it ignited the fairing + me only being able to do 40 or so meant the air wasnt cooling it. I joined this club in the hope i might get good advice on how to sort the bike but after it caught fire i have had enough, a friend told me about a guy near to where i live who buys, sells and breaks bikes, he has acheap cbr6 and will give me £150 for the gpx, the deal will be done this saturday so this might be my first and last post!
