Does anybody know which years alternator rotors are compatible with a 1991 GPZ500 without the need to change any wiring, as mine has just disintegrated

Find one on ebay and enlarge the foto to view item, and ask the seller for wiring colours and info. I reckon all 90s will be the same but dont take my word for it.

I think you mean the alternator stator. The alternator rotor is only a huge magnet that acts also as flywheel to the crankshaft. It does not have any wiring.

i agree having delt with this issue twice this year. threeyellow wires? they connect to the three yellow wires of the rectifier check charge across battery terminals 14.5 ish volts says its working ok red to red black to black brown not important but goes to loom before coils on mine (550) something to do with power usage

Both rotors are interchangeable, however the early 87-93 models had two pick up, where the later generation two 94 on uses just one, find the ex500 forum and find out how to do a simple mod to the new rotor in order to make it work: http://www.ex-500.com/index.php

Just thought i'd add that if you can get the stator as well as the rotor, the mod wont need to be done, also, fit the later cam chain tensioner if you dont already have it, the early ones dont have enough adjustment and give up easily.
