ZZR600 1991 - cuts out; Ticks over fine but engine cuts out when running

Just having a problem recently with my ZZR600. The bike ticks over fine when started and left to sit. When I go for a run on the road though, it cuts out on me and I cannot get it restarted again. It is like there is no fuel getting through.

Does anyone know what this could be or had this problem before?

Many thanks

Kirsty

I had a few zzr600's and those syptoms point to the regulator/rectifier. It does not put the correct charge to the battery while you are riding so the bike runs out of electrical power.

Should be an easy fix and is quite a common problem on the D model (90-93) ZZR600's

I had one of mine do the same as yours and would allways start and idle fine. Then it would randomley stop usually in a traffic que, meaning my wife(then Girlfriend)would end up pushing the bike so i could bump start it!!

Hi there, do not know what your weather is like at the moment? My ZX10R does the same sort of thing which turned out to be the engine coolant temperature sensor unit.
The workshop manual should provide a means of tests and a replacement unit is not that expensive either. roughly a 2 hour job on the ZX10R
Worth a try
