Hi to all. hoping someone can help out there. I have a ZXR 750 L1 European import and decided to have a look under the tank at air filter, reed valves ETC. I noticed that some time in the past it has had the clean air system, fitted as standard on some european models, modified including the blanking off of the left hand side of the air box. I also noticed that the two reed valve covers have been joined together with a piece of copper pipe using the original pipe that was for the clean air to be sucked in from the air box. I was uncertain as to why this had been done but have since found out that its a bit of a modification to add a tad more bhp. Most off what i have read say that the covers can be blanked off completely and no where has said they need to be joined together. so can I just blank each reed valve cover off, as is suggested on other model Kawasakis and is there any point in cleaning reed valves as stated in the book if the clean air system has been altered? thanks best regards becks |

The reed valves only allow fresh air from air box into exhaust valves when connected. This burn some unburned hydrocarbons cleaning the exhaust. The elimination of this system, other than poluting a bit, does not change performance in any way. The only legitimate reason is for cleaning up the clutter under the tank making easier other maintenance shores. Blanking the reed valves any further will not do absoutely anything other than streamlining the valve cover. |
