Hi Can anyone give me some advice on my bike problem. The bike is a KZ440 ltd,it has electronic ignition so I know the timing is ok but it runs really rough and the right cylinder gets hot,I can't get the proper air filter for it,there are a few different types and sods law says mine you can't get,so I have fitted K&N type filters and I have set the carb's for normal airbox running. So my question is do I need to change the jets in the carb's or just alter the pilot jet setting or just HIT IT with a big hammer and walk away for a 10 min cooling down period,as you can guess I am desperately in need of some advice, just thought could it be valve timing???. Please help Peter Edited by artic fox, Sep 15 2011, 04:09 PM.

when ive fitted k@n filters in the past ive had to put bigger main jets in . sounds like your running lean ,and could be heading for meltdown. |

if it's running hot on one cylinder it might need the valve clearances adjusting or the carbs balancing, jetting for the filter is also affected by what type of exhaust you have, standard or freeflowing, remember that main jets come into play at near full throttle, so unless you're riding hard or thrashing the bike a lot........ it could be worth richening the pilot mixture a bit |

Thanks again, I'm going to do the valves today so I'll try adjusting the carb's at the same time. I know the bike had a complete re-build with new head and bit's by a proper motorcycle mechanic and I was told that he had done all the adjustments but the carb's where separate and had not been done so maybe I should check every thing. Pete PS a before and after shot included. |
