think the timing has sliped on my gpz500 D 2000 model. Alot of back firing and cant get it running and found the crank nut was undo :/ had a look in the haynes but it seems to say timing is not adjustable?? |

Hi Mate. If your crank nut was loose, then the flywheel will have possibly have been rocking around on the end of the crankshaft, this may have sheared or worn away the woodruff key that locates the flywheel to the shaft, any play there will put the ignition timing out as there is a crankshaft sensor reading the flywheel position, if the flywheel position is wrong...then so is your timing, remove the flywheel and inspect the groove in the flywheel / woodruff key and its locating groove in the crankshaft. Any worn part needs to be replaced as it will loosen again if overlooked or ignored. |
