Hi guys this is my 1st post on the forum, basically about a month and a half ago I bought a 2007 Eliminator 125 to replace my chinese Jinlun. Anyway on Tuesday on the way to work after driving for about 20min it just started stuttering and loosing power I managed to pull over just before it lost power all together, after about 15mins of standing still it started back up again and I was able to drive it a short distance before it started loosing power again. Does anyone know what the problem could be? I have to be fair I was shocked that it did this as my chinese bike as "oops" as it was never completely broke down it took a LOT of work to keep going which is why I chose to buy a Kawasaki this time round. I know a little bit about bikes from working on my old one so any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks. |

hi alex, welcome to the forum and merry christmas, two of the most common faults which would cause this are a blocked filler cap vent or blocked fuel tap/filter/pipe. easiest thing to test is the filler cap vent, open the fuel filler cap and ride about for a while, if this fixes it then your filler cap needs stripped and cleaned out, if not then the next thing is to replace the fuel filter, if one is fitted, and make sure the fuel pipe is clear. let us know how you get on mate :)

lmbo2, whats wrong with your old engine? its very rare that I would say anything needs a new engine, as they are fairly repairable |

Hi guys sorry for delay in replying to you, since my eliminator was under warranty i took it back to the shop they have only just got back to me saying its the pilot jet just not sure if this sounds right what do you guys think? I thought the pilot jet was just for starting up and that it would run on main jet once running but it cut out on me and stuttered to a stop while I was doing 30. Any advice please? Thanks |

sounds very feasable, pilot jet does far more than just ticking over, its always in use and would effect a low powered bike quite badly, had many problems with a poor and non running gsxr due to pilot jet problems |

They didnt mention what exactly was wrong with the pilot jet just that it was "end of its life" they also mentioned something about the pilot air jet head been worn off and they would also be replacing that, I will check my self for the fuel tank cap if I still have problems when I get it back I absolutely hate to say it but I miss my chinese Jinlun lol it was a chinese piece of "oops" and gave me nothing but problems but they were always problems I could fix myself and never once completely broke down on me lol Whilst on here though I could use some other advice my old Jinlun was very heavy so even in really windy weather I was able to drive without been knocked around however with this bike I have nearly been blown into the other side of the road several times (i am only 9 stone - no traction) the wind hits from the side and the bike literally just changes direction and I have to correct really fast, is there anything I can do to gain more traction I am thinking front and rear crash bars and saddle bags?! I'm not fussed about speed so long as I can get to work safely.

ah well just make sure they fix it ;) your main problem with adding weight, excluding the speed that your not bothered about, is fuel consumption, if you go about adding weoght I would reccomend making it quick release so that you can take it off on calm days, and save fuel. other tips for tackling wind, try and predict it, I.e. look for approaching gaps in hedges, buoldngs, etc and move across the road to give yourself as much space from oncoming traffic as you can, also the lower your speed is the less the wind affects you. I've had a crosswind hit me at 80-odd, and slammed on the brakes, just brought it back to 60 and made a huge improvement. the other thing I would suggest is to keep an eye on weather reports, and consider if you really have to ride. anything over a predicted 35 and I refuse to ride unless its an emergency. ride safe :) ( when you get your bike back anyway) |
