im getting a tapping from my front brakes. its getting louder as time goes on but i cant seem to trace it to fix it.

the brakes work fine. also when i apply a bit of pressure to the front brakes the tapping goes.

pads look fine,

have you taken the brake apart to have a proper look ? check all bolts are tight , take the pads out and have a decent look at them, it may not be your brakes it could be your suspension best to check the front forks for damage

keep us updated bud

oh and what bike its

hi nick, I get a similar thing at low speeds, after thorough investigation I have put it down to a slight warp in the disc(not enough to feel while braking) and a bit of wear on the pad retaining pins, yet another thing I will get round to one day :)

it is a zx9r c1. it's not the suspension as it does it when the weel is off the floor.

i have had the brakes apart and they do look ok, However i am doing it again this weekend to double check "weather permiting"

kwakjack

this sounds more possible. i will be going in again weekend to have a look.

Cheers for the advice guys :-)

i will get back to you when im done.

Cheers

I had the same thing a while ago with my SV650.

After checking I found the mountings between the bell and the disc were worn and allowing it to chatter when not under load.
It did not affect riding other than being annoying. It went away as soon as the brake was applied. I renewed the discs and it all went away.
To check this just try and move the disc back and forth. If it moves you will hear the dry chatter from the "bobbins" that locate the disc to the bell (or hub).
