Hi New to this was a biker up until i had a bike crash and now after 9 years of not riding i want to get back in the saddle. I bought an El 400 just before we had the crash and have only done about 150 miles on it. The bike i bought second hand ran lovely, but it has been in my garage collecting dust until i mention it to a friend who said they knew somebody who would be able to get it going again, so after a year i have finally rescued it but i don't know what he has done to it but it is in a very sorry state. He tells me he started to work on it then lost interest when he got a job. I have asked many people to help me with this project but not knowing where to start. So i have turned to the club to see if i can get any advise or help would really love to get it looking and sounding as good as it did before i left it gathering dust. Please help. : :991 :991 :991

hiya Pat, bike doesnt look so bad just a bit of light front end going by pics, mind after sitting so long it is going to need fair bit doing, need to do the obvious repairs but before that check the engine turns over and is not seized up, if it does turn over then your going to need a full service and all fluids changing on the bike including coolant and brake fluid, brakes will need a good going over to make sure there are no leaks, seized pistons, fair chance it will need new brake pipes as well, going to need new tyres as though the ones on it look ok they will be hard as anything and lack grip after all this time as the rubber chemically changes, its not as bad as it seems but not going to be cheap to do, maybe worth finding a shop that will help you out and do it a bit at a time
