Hi there I just bought a 2007 Z750 a couple of weeks ago and I have been cleaning it up. I took the frame covers off and could not believe the rust the paint was all flaking off I live in Glasgow which freezes in the winter so they put salt on the roads but I have had motorbike for over 30 years including Kawas but never seen anything as bad as this. Has anyone had the same problems I used smoothrite paint on it but unless this frame is powder coated the bike will not see 20 years.

Unfortunately built to a budget and not just Kawasaki. Look at the Suzuki bandits MK1. If you want to keep the bike take this winter off and strip it and powdercoat it yourself. If I had the storage I would be doing that myself or buying a frame that is already done. Saying that my 1985 frame is still looking not to bad with its original paint on it.

I'm about 40 miles East of you Stevie, Same here, me & mates who are winter riders usually put protective sprays on our bikes. Think Scottoiler does quite a decent one if i mind right.
I try to grease up as much as i can when working on my bikes (like under the swingarm covers etc...) then wash & spray protective stuff as much as i can during the winter.

I use to be a motorcycle driving instructor and used bikes all winter but never seen anything like this on a seven year old bike what would it take to give a decent coat of paint on a frame I might try and strip it during the winter and get it plastic coated but that is a huge job.
