Z250 A3 poor idle; Engine idling

I have a z250a3 which I have owned from new but has not been used for a few years. I have managed to get everyone thing to work, but I cannot get the engine to idle. I suspect that this is a fuel problem as it will run quite happily on the choke, the fuel tank has been cleaned and all the fuel lines are new. The carbs have been removed cleaned, but still no luck.
Anybody got any ideas?

these carbs are very difficult to clean especially if they have been stood with old fuel in them . You must strip it down completely and clean every internal drilling very carefully , Old petrol sets hard and is difficult to shift . If you clean them twice ,then once again for luck you should avoid the rave of having to keep taking them off .A Fuel conditioner/ cleaner in the tank can be used to keep things clean but the trick is patience and a careful clean .

It's the ethanol content of modern petrol that causes the problem . If a bike is left idle for even a few months the fuel attracts moisture and causes internal erosion of the carb bodies the resulting deposits block up the drillings and jets . I always switch off the petrol a few hundred yards from home so I have empty float bowls when the bikes put away .

I had one of these bikes years ago and had problems with the carbs as it was lying for years the petrol was like varnish in the floats did everything to clean them but had no luck ended up getting a second hand set from a scrappy and the bike ran ok after that.
